Functional responses of the egg parasitoid , Trichogramma evanescens (Westwood) (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) on Angoumois moth , Sitotroga cerealella (Oliver) (Lipedoptera: Gelechiidae)

Abstract

Laboratory studies were conducted at the college of Agriculture Al-Muthanna University in 2015 – 2016 to evaluate the effects of the exposure of different stages (egg and adults) of the Angoumois moth Sitotroga cerealella Oliver to microwave radiation at the powers of 200 , 400 and 600 watts for 3 different durations (30 , 60 and 90 second respectively). 600 w for 90 s was the most effective treatment, as compared to others. Complete mortalities (100{8aa0d92a9d700de00931fb59e75e46e902b43698544c97f28f7bec3700555d1d}) of eggs, 1st instar larvae , 4th instar larvae, pupae and adults were a achieved at the powers of 90 w and longest exposure time (90 s) for moth stages, respectively. An increased in larval and pupal periods and abnormal development of adults were observed due to the exposure to microwave radiation. Wheat seeds germination were 93.3, 81.7 and 65.0{8aa0d92a9d700de00931fb59e75e46e902b43698544c97f28f7bec3700555d1d} at the power of 200, 400 and 600 w, respectively.

To counter salt stress and product stress from it on corn seed germination

Abstract

A germination test was conducted for L. maize seed L. 5018 in the seed testing and certification laboratories – Ministry of Agriculture – Basrah Governorate, in June 2015, With a agents experience included, The first factor is to soak the seeds with combinations of (1- salicylic 2-GA3 3- K+and Ca ++) to obtain 12 independent treatments representing their combined effect. The first is salicylic acid at concentration 0, 2 and 3 ml. The second Gibberellin (GA3) concentration of 300 mg.L-1, The third Nutritious Minerals (CaSO4 concentration of 73.45 mM L-1 and KCl concentration of 7.56 g), Gibberellin and Nutritious Minerals Two levels absence Or presence, The second factor concentrations of salt to the middle of Germination 0, 50, 100 or 150 mM L-1 of NaCl. The seeds were soaked in the above treatments and the seeds were then planted in dishes of polyethylene 9 cm in diameter and containing a medium of pure sand, The coefficients were distributed according to complete randomized design (C.R.D) with three replicate. The results showed that increased concentration of salt in the men of germination reduced all germination indicators by inverse proportion, and salinity resistance factors gave significant results in improved seedling germination, The treatment showed 8 (salicylic 2 mML-1 with both Gibberellin and nutrients Racists) significantly higher in germination indicators and seedling growth. The speed and proportion of germination increased, plumule length, soft and dry weight, Radicale length, fresh and dry weights increased by 104.42, 82.78 and 113. 02, 78.32, 92.38, 31.66, 66.66 and 111.11{8aa0d92a9d700de00931fb59e75e46e902b43698544c97f28f7bec3700555d1d} respectively. Suggesting that repairing damage caused by a particular stress does not necessarily mean repairing all the damage. Salt stress comes with a package of stresses, and it can be concluded that a multifaceted confrontation may be more effective in reducing the damage of stress.

The effect of water salinity on biological nitrogen transformation in the soil

Abstract

To study the effect of salinity of irrigation water on biological nitrogen  transformation. Lab experiments were conducted at ascientific unit research in college of agriculture university  of Baghdad. soil samples were collected at depth 0-30cm from college field treated with mixture of following salts KCl ,MgCl2 , NaCl, CaCl2 to give four levels of salanity : 0.3 ,2.5 , 4.8 , 7.2 ds m-1, the treated soil samples were put in plastic cans(200gm),nitrogen fertilizer with two levels were added (as urea)(100kg N ha-1)(200N kg ha-1).The samples were incubated four weeks at 30*c. Soil samples were taken to determine NH4+ , NO3 , SAR and the number of nitrobacter and nitrosomanas bacteria .The results of the experiments showed asignificant increase in the amount of NH4+ in both treatment of tap water , the first level of nitrogen fertilizer after two weeks of incubation was 305.5 mg N kg-1 . while the amount of NH4+ decreased to 291.8 mg N kg-1 when the consentration of salinity in creased . Also there was adecline in the amount of NH4+ when the value of SAR increased and gave 281.5 mg N kg-1 soil , the elevation of salinity of the water caused reduction in the oxidation of NH4+ to NO3 which give 94.7mg N. the high salinity of water played an important role in SAR value which increased from 18 to 33.5 at 7.2 ds.m-1 , the results showed also was a clear decline in the the sailinty of water increased after four weeks of incubation number of nitrosomonas from 0.401 x 106cfu to 0.014×104 cfu . gm-1 when. we can canclude that nitrobacter bacteria more sensitive to salinity than the nitrosomonas.
